Patient Guidance

Helpful guidance before your consultation

Practical information to help families prepare, understand what happens during a specialist review, and know what to expect afterwards.

Before Your Appointment

It helps to note down your child's symptoms, how long they have been present, and any concerns you would like to raise. Having this information ready allows the consultation to run smoothly and ensures nothing important is overlooked.

What to Bring

Please bring any previous blood test results, imaging reports, and letters from your GP or other specialists. A list of your child's current medications, including dosages, is also helpful and will support a thorough and accurate clinical assessment.

During Consultation

Detailed medical and family history, carry out a clinical examination, and discuss my initial findings with you. I aim to explain everything clearly so that you leave the appointment with a full understanding of the next steps.

After Your Visit

Following the consultation, a written summary will be sent to you and your referring clinician. This will include any recommended investigations, onward referrals, or treatment considerations discussed during the appointment for your ongoing reference.

Insurance and Fees

Private consultations are available at King's College Hospital, Denmark Hill. I accept self-funding patients and referrals from most major private medical insurers. Please confirm your insurance details and any pre-authorisation requirements with your provider before booking.

Remote Consultations

Video consultations are available for follow-up appointments and for families based outside London who may find travel difficult. Please mention this preference when booking so that the most appropriate format can be arranged to suit your family's needs.

Common questions

If you are unsure whether a specialist review is appropriate, the questions below can help clarify next steps.

When should I see a paediatric liver specialist?

Consider seeking a specialist consultation if your child has been diagnosed with a liver condition, is experiencing persistent symptoms such as jaundice or abdominal discomfort, or has returned abnormal liver blood test results that require further investigation.

A GP or specialist referral is recommended and helps ensure the consultation is as focused and productive as possible. However, self-referrals from parents are also accepted. Please contact the appointments team to discuss your specific situation.

He assesses and manages a wide range of paediatric liver conditions, including fatty liver disease, abnormal liver function, genetic and metabolic liver disorders, liver infections, and pre- and post-transplant care, as well as general paediatric hepatology concerns.

The consultation begins with a detailed review of your child’s medical history and current symptoms, followed by a clinical examination. I will then discuss my findings, explain any recommended investigations, and outline a clear, personalised plan for ongoing care.
